Terms
Short, and in plain words. Using The Ledger means agreeing to these.
What The Ledger is
A bookkeeping tool for a private home game. You write down what people bought in for, what they left with, and who owes whom. It is a shared notebook that does arithmetic.
What The Ledger is not
It is not a casino and it is not a card room. No game is played here. There are no cards, no dealing, no shuffling, no chance, and no outcome decided by the app.
It never holds or moves money. Not yours, not anybody else's. The figures are a record of cash that changed hands somewhere else entirely, between people who already know each other. There is no wallet, no balance to withdraw, no deposit, and no payment of any kind passing between players through this app.
It takes no cut. The Ledger has no financial interest in any figure you type into it.
Your responsibility for what you play
Gambling law differs enormously from one country to the next, and in some places a private game among friends is restricted or prohibited outright. You are responsible for what is lawful where you are. Do not use The Ledger to record, organise or encourage any activity that is illegal in your country or region.
We are a notebook. We cannot know what you are writing down or where you are sitting, and this clause does not make an unlawful game lawful. If you are unsure, find out before you play, not after.
Your account
You must be 18 or over. Keep your password to yourself — anybody who has it can act as you, including editing a night's figures. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.
Your clubs
A club owner decides who is in their club and who may log a game. Members can see each other's results within that club, which is what makes settling up possible. Do not put anything in a club that you would not want the rest of that table to read.
Arguments about money
The Ledger records what somebody typed. It does not witness the game and it has no idea whether the numbers are true. If there is a disagreement about what actually happened at the table, that is between the players — we cannot arbitrate it, reverse it, or tell you who is right.
Check the figures. A settle-up is only as good as what went into it.
Availability
We try to keep this running and we will not promise that it always is. Export your club from the backup screen if a record matters to you — that file is yours and does not depend on us.
Ending it
You can stop using The Ledger whenever you like and delete your account from Settings. We may close an account that is being used for something unlawful or that is harming other people using the app.
